A long marquise-cut stone held at the center of a band that sweeps up and around it in one fluid curve. Sculptural, elegant, and unlike any classic solitaire. Available in rhodium-plated sterling silver or 10K gold vermeil.
The Metal Truth
Material: 925 Sterling Silver
Finish: Rhodium-plated (silver) or 10K gold vermeil (gold)
Stones: Cubic zirconia, lab-created, one 6 x 12 mm marquise cut
Best for: A promise ring, a travel ring to wear in place of an engagement ring, a statement ring for everyday
Wear note: About 1.99 grams in size 7. The marquise sits lengthwise along the finger, which makes the hand look longer, and the stone is held in claw prongs so light reaches it from every side.
Care: Rings take the most wear of any jewelry, so the finish on the palm side will soften first. Take it off for hand washing, hand sanitizer, lotion, cleaning, and the gym. The marquise's pointed ends are protected by prongs, but raised prongs can catch on knits and hair, so slip it off before getting dressed or styling your hair, and check now and then that the prongs still sit snug against the stone. To bring back the sparkle, clean gently with mild soapy water and a soft brush, then dry completely with a soft cloth. Skip silver dips and abrasive polishing cloths, which wear plating and vermeil faster. Store it on its own in a pouch.
About the Rhodium
Rhodium is a precious metal in the platinum family. Fine jewelers use it to give white gold and sterling silver their bright, white finish, so it's a standard step in quality jewelry, not a shortcut. Underneath is real 925 sterling silver, never base metal. With regular wear, the plating can soften over time, and any jeweler can refresh it.
About Gold Vermeil
Gold vermeil (pronounced ver-MAY) is a thick layer of real gold over a base of 925 sterling silver. To be called vermeil, the gold must be at least 10K and at least 2.5 microns thick, which is far heavier than standard gold plating. This piece is 10K gold vermeil, at least 2.5 microns thick. Because the base is sterling silver rather than brass or copper, you're wearing precious metal all the way through. With years of regular wear, vermeil can soften in high-contact spots, and any jeweler can restore it.
Why We Chose It
Most marquise rings set the stone on a straight band. This one lets the band move: it curves up to meet the top point of the stone, sweeps under, and rises again to cradle the other end. The marquise looks held rather than mounted, and the whole ring reads as one continuous line.
Styling Notes
Let it be the one ring on its hand, worn on the ring finger or middle finger. If you stack, keep it simple with one thin band on a neighboring finger, like the Lyra Stacking Ring in the same finish. For an all-sculptural hand, wear the silver Aria with the Rhea Wrap Ring.
